Description

The bestselling author of Twenty Years Later delivers a chilling thriller where nothing is at it seems and each reveal is more shocking than the last…right up to the jaw-dropping final twist.

“A gripping thriller that will blow readers away." –Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author on Don’t Believe It

“A superb storyteller.” —Robert Dugoni, New York Times bestselling author

Two abducted girls—one who returns, one who doesn’t.

The night they go missing, high school seniors Nicole Cutty and Megan McDonald are at a beach party in their small town of Emerson Bay, North Carolina. Police launch a massive search, but hope is almost lost—until Megan escapes from a bunker deep in the woods. . . . A year later, the bestselling account of her ordeal has made Megan a celebrity. It’s a triumphant story, except for one inconvenient detail: Nicole is still missing.

Nicole’s older sister, Livia, a fellow in forensic pathology, expects that one day soon Nicole’s body will be found and her sister’s fate determined. Instead, the first clue comes from another body—that of a young man connected to Nicole’s past. Livia reaches out to Megan to learn more about that fateful night. Other girls have disappeared, and she’s increasingly sure the cases are connected.

Megan knows more than she revealed in her book. Flashes of memory are pointing to something more monstrous than she described. And the deeper she and Livia dig, the more they realize that sometimes true terror lies in finding exactly what you’ve been looking for . . .

“A fast-moving page-turner. . . . Donlea skillfully maximizes suspense by juggling narrators and time all the way to the shocking final twists.”

My Review: Loved!!!!! This one was so dark and twisted!!!!! This was my second book by this author and wow, just wow. I could get lost in his books all day. He is such a fantastic writer and his attention to details is great. I learned so much just by reading one of his books. I even have a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and never learned this much going to college. I don’t know where to begin with this read. The characters were so well written and worked so well together. Sometimes you read a book and you are like that character doesn’t make sense but not in this one. Every character had a purpose in this story and each character made the story run smoothly. That is why I raced through each chapter like it was the last. I just had to find out the ending. Let’s talk a little bit about the storyline. Two abducted girls—one who returns, one who doesn’t. Who doesn’t love that kind of tagline and who wouldn’t want to find out more. That line alone from the blurb made me pick up this book. Whoever wrote the description did a fantastic job. This plot kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat the entire time. There was not one chapter in my opinion that was boring or not necessary for the story. On to my favorite part, the ending. What a shocker that left me speechless and wanting more. Could not believe it. I had it to read it twice. That does not happen often. This author is the King of Suspense in my opinion. I can’t wait to read more of his books. He is definitely one of my favorite authors. I can’t say enough good things about him and his books. In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
